Bowie’s Law would require animal shelters to give at least 72 hours public notice before euthanizing any adoptable pet, allowing more time for families and rescue groups to step in. The bill also commissions a statewide study on shelter overcrowding, so California can develop meaningful, data-driven strategies to prevent unnecessary euthanasia and improve animal welfare.

We just presented AB 1443 to give servers, bartenders, and rideshare drivers a break. These tips aren’t from the boss—they’re earned through hustle and hard work. Most people agree: taxing generosity just isn’t right. This bill would stop California from taxing tips for 5 years and cut UI costs tied to them. It’s a commonsense idea that should earn bipartisan support — because in a state this expensive, we should be helping, not hurting, those who serve us every day.
